I was scheduled to stay in the dorm because I had declined the Hensel Apartments (which I
later learned was first condemned in the 1930’s, but still housed mostly married students). I
found the dorm where I was supposed to stay and carried my Stereo into the room with me.
After living in apartments in Houston for the past four years, my dreams of a year at Texas
A&M living suddenly became shattered. All I saw in the dorms were foreign students
(Affectionately called camel jocks) and I knew that I did not want to stay there. The next day at
our meeting I became friends with two other single guys who were also seeking housing. This
is when the bond between Roger Banwart and Richard Magarian was ensured. We went to
the
Casa Del Sol, which was a brand new apartment project at 401 Stasney, and convinced
the management that were not the usual Aggie students and would not tear the place up. We
assured them that we were Grad students and were responsible adults. And we were, unless
you count Friday night Po
ker games that were held in our apartment.  Casa Del Sol  became
home for our year's stay at Aggie land.
