HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR APRIL

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FOR APRIL
None Listed;
READING THE NEW TESTAMENT: COLOSSIANS:
Chapter 3:18-25: Family Relations: Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting
in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.
Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart. Slaves, in all
things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those
who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do,
do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done,
and that without partiality. Chapter 4:1-13: Fellow Workers: Masters, grant to your
slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven. Devote
yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the
same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may
speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may
make it clear in the way I ought to speak. Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward
outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace,
as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each
person. As to all my affairs, Tychicus, our beloved brother and faithful servant and
fellow bond-servant in the Lord, will bring you information. For I have sent him to you
for this very purpose, that you may know about our circumstances and that he may
encourage your hearts; and with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who
is one of your number. They will inform you about the whole situation here.
Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, sends you his greetings; and also Barnabas’ cousin
Mark (about whom you received instructions; if he comes to you, welcome him); and
also Jesus who is called Justus; these are the only fellow workers for the kingdom of
God who are from the circumcision, and they have proved to be an encouragement to
me. Epaphras, who is one of your number, a bond slave of Jesus Christ, sends you
his greetings, always laboring earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand
perfect and fully assured in all the will of God. For I testify for him that he has a deep
concern for you and for those who are in Laodicea and Hierapolis.

ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED!
Zeke Flores, Herty Church of Christ Bulletin, Lufkin, Texas
Years ago, when I worked for a Caterpillar dealer, I got the opportunity to visit several
Cat. Factories. One was a foundry where they produced metal parts of all kinds from
large engine blocks to the smaller parts that keep an engine running. We were told
that different metals purify at different temperatures and we got to see some of the
process. During the heating, we saw the ‘dross’ curling up to the surface where it was
separated from the red orange highly heated metal. This process is important if the
final piece is going to have the quality it needs.
The same is somewhat true for us. God purifies us with fiery trials of differing
temperatures all intended to release the corruption from within and make us stronger,
higher quality, disciples. But the process isn’t easy. It hurts and sometimes the
“growing pains” of these strengthening trials is not very palpable (well-received).
You can probably think of several incidents in your life that, while troublesome and
hurtful, ended up making a better, more mature Christian. It’s good to recognize the
pain, but it’s better to know that, by it, God is helping to release the dross that hampers
your character. Stick with it and someday you’ll celebrate the result. “The refining pot
is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the hearts” (Prov. 17:3).

TRUTH DOES NOT FEAR QUESTIONING . . .
Carl Peterson, Herty Church of Christ Bulletin, Lufkin, Texas
Truth does not fear questioning and investigation. A well-founded faith can withstand
people poking at the foundation. In fact, which speaks better of someone claiming to
be on the side of truth: “Take my word for it,” or “Ask me anything”?
Christians are often accused of blind faith---of believing in something without any
reasonable or factual basis. And let’s be honest: we often leave ourselves open to
the charge because of how we talk about our faith and what we believe. We treat it as
something that exists apart from the available evidence. We divorce our faith from the
process of scientific inquiry since the loudest voices in science say the science leads
elsewhere. And if that’s how we treat it, why would we expect our accusers to be any
more charitable?
Paul spoke of more than 500 who were witnesses to the resurrection (1st Cor. 15:6).
He said most were still living at the time he wrote First Corinthians. The implication?
You could ask them about the resurrection. Ask them about what they had seen. Are
we willing to have what we believe subjected to the same scrutiny? Are we confident
enough in the reason for our hope that we are willing to lay it out on the table for
someone else to scrutinize?
“I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delight; Things that are
higher, things that are nobler, These have allured my sight. I will hasten to Him, Hasten
so glad and free, (Hasten glad and free,) Jesus, greatest, highest, I will come to Thee.”

HOW MANY CHURCHES DID JESUS BUILD?
Who should I ask? Religious authorities? My friends? Why not ask Jesus? He said
He would build His church. “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I
will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:
18). Why not ask Paul? He said there is one body. “There is one body and one
Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4).
HOW CAN I BE SAVED? WHY NOT ASK JESUS?
Jesus said: “you must believe” (John 8:24); “you must repent” (Luke 13:3); “you
must confess” (Matt. 10:32-33); “you must be baptized” (Mark 16:16). Jesus said it
all; just ask Him.
