A SALUTE TO LINDER RAY CLIVER
LINDER RAY AND FAMILY @ OUR REUNION
Linder Ray and I grew up together, attending the Malakoff Church
of Christ. It was often a time when he and I were the only young
people our age in attendance. Our families were always there and
he and I learned to lead Chuch singing with the help of Jessie
Thomas, who was a well-known song leader in the area. When we
were leading, our voices were changing and if you remember
Alfalfa from the Little Rascals, this is probably who we sounded
like. Linder was never the athletic type, more leaning toward auto
mechanics and that is why he was good  friends with James
Newell, another of our classmates. After our Freshman year, Linder
Ray dropped out of school and married the love of his life Sybil
Airhart from Trinidad. Sybil eventually secured her teaching
certificate, but sadly she was killed in an auto accident. Later,
Linder Ray remarried. Over the years I would see Linder at funerals
and on occasion I would run in to him somewhere. He ran an auto
shop on Crossroads Drive, near where my Mother and Step Father
lived. I learned that Linder Ray's 2nd wife had passed away last
year and he was very distraught. Later I learned that he was in a
nursing home and alas, soon passed away.
