The Old Rock School of Malakoff, Texas is worth saving
This website has been set up to show a collection of all of the information that has been accumulating since the board decided to destroy the school.
I want to refer to James Chapter 2 and what the brother of Jesus had to say about the tongue. All, including myself, need to read and reread this chapter and understand that every word, be it via the tongue or an email or a letter is still using the "tongue"!! In recent years we seem to line up on both sides of a question and we get into personalities instead of issues. We lost our debate when we tried naming our school for Miss Annie Pope. Why? I think it is because no one knew the real Annie Pope, just as those who are against keeping the Rock School, do not know her. James speaks out against gossip and tale bearing, but he never speaks out against standing up for things that are right. The big question is can we do so in an adult and civil way, without getting into personalities.
I urge the ones who really do not want save the Rock School to ask themselves some questions:
Did you go to the rock school?
Do you have good memories about the school?
Did you have parents or grandparents that went there?
Is this building unique?
Does the historical society say that it is a solid building, worth saving?
In your mind what safety issues exist?
Are these real safety issues? If so, please list them
What if the Rock School was only open during the summer, or when school was not in session, would this be a way that would be safer for you?
