The Bible gives us examples of how we should live and how we should serve God. One of the most compelling stories (Acts 8:26-40) is the one about Phillip and the man from Ethiopia, a Eunuch. He was one of great authority under Queen Candace of Ethiopia. The Eunuch had come to Jerusalem for worship and as he was returning from Jerusalem, he sat in his Chariot and read from Esaias the prophet. Phillip in the meantime was told by an Angel to go and join the Eunuch, which he did. The scripture the Eunuch read was about a lamb being led to slaughter and as Phillip joined the Eunuch, the Eunuch desired to know what this meant, so Phillip preached to him Jesus. As they journeyed they came upon a certain water and the Eunuch said, “See, here is water, what doeth hinder me to be baptized? (Acts 8:36) and Phillip replied, “If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.” And he answered, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.” They stopped there and they both went down into the water and Phillip baptized him. The Eunuch went on his way rejoicing. |
