READING THE NEW TESTAMENT:   FIRST TIMOTHY:
Chapter 1:1-17:   Mis-leadings in Doctrine and Living:    Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus
according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope, To
Timothy, my true child in the faith:   Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ
Jesus our Lord.   As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so
that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths
and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the
administration of God which is by faith.  But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart
and a good conscience and a sincere faith.  For some men, straying from these things, have
turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not
understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident
assertions.  But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is
not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly
and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for
murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and
whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed
God, with which I have been entrusted.  I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me,
because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, even though I was formerly a
blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor.  Yet I was shown mercy because I acted
ignorantly in unbelief;  and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and
love which are found in Christ Jesus.  It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.  Yet for
this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His
perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.  Now to the
King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Are You Taking Your Medicine?
By Jerral Kay, Herty Church of Christ Bulletin, Lufkin, Texas
An elderly (hmm) gentleman who hated going to the doctor became ill.  Finally agreeing to
go, he was given a prescription to be taken daily for a month.   Taking his first does he nearly
choked!   So, he added a little water to it.   His next dose was just as bad, so he added a little
honey to it.   He continued adding a little this, a little that, until it began to taste pretty good.
When  he returned to the doctor for his checkup, however, the doctor was puzzled as to why
there was no progress made.   “Did you take your medicine as I prescribed?” the doctor asked.
“I sure did!” the man replied.   The doctor said, “Well, I don’t understand why you haven’t
improved.”
I think we all can see what happened.   The old man kept adding things to his medicine until it
was so deluded it couldn’t do the work for which it was intended.   Too many people say they are
taking the medicine God has prescribed, but by adding their old traditions and man made creeds
along with other “great ideas” they have not only deluded God’s Word, but have polluted it
beyond any usefulness.   By doing this they feel they have made His Word more palatable, but,
in reality, they have only weakened it and robbed it of any real value.
God’s Word can be strong medicine sometimes, but the great Physician knows what He is
doing.   No one can take this watered-down ‘medicine’ taught by men and correctly expect to be
cured of their souls diseases.

Let Your Worries Drift Away!

By Heath Rogers, Herty Church of Christ, Bulletin, Lufkin, Texas
A number of people have devices that play relaxing sounds.   Isn’t it interesting how often
water is used as the source of sounds that are supposed to relax us?   For some, the sound of
waves crashing upon a beach is a reminder of their “happy place” and it allows them to “get
away” in their mind for a few moments.   Perhaps it is the sound of rain gently falling outside a
window.   I prefer the sound of water that is flowing gently down a stream.   It reminds me of times
I would be fishing with my Grandpa or catching crawdads in the creek with my sister. Happy
memories of a time without the worries or stresses of life.
As you sit on the bank of a winding stream, you can’t see where the water is coming from, or
where it is going, but you can enjoy the water that happens to be flowing in front of you.   Toss in
a leaf or a flower, and you can watch as the water takes it downstream, gently flowing away.
As Christians, we face a number of struggles as we take up our cross and follow Jesus daily.
Sometimes life can get hectic; troubles can begin to stack up, and we desire some momentary
relief.   At other times, life can hit us very hard and we want to escape.   The Lord tells us “do not
worry” (Matt. 6:25, 31, 34).   “Cast them on the Lord,” (Psalm 55:22; 1 Pet. 5:7).
“I bring my grief to Thee, the grief I cannot tell; No word shall needed be; Thou knowest all so
well; I bring the sorrow laid on me, O suffering Savior, all to Thee, O suffering Savior, all to
Thee.” ATTENTION:     We will NOT have worship services Sunday.
May God Bless the Westfield Church members in their efforts.   Amen.
ATTENTION:     Our next open-pantry day has been put on hold for a few months.   Let’s not
forget to restock the pantry.
NOTICE:     The program, ‘In Search of the Lord’s Way’, airs on Sunday mornings:  On DISH
Network, 7 to 7:30 a.m., local TV channel 57.  On U verse, 6:00 a.m., Sunday, ch. 1180.  Check
your provider if different.
ATTENTION:     The worship service at Village on the Park, on Sundays, has been put on hold
for an unspecified time.  It shall return soon.

TEST YOUR BIBLE KNOWLEDGE!
‘Bible Riddles’ You Should Know (Easy From the O.T.):
1.It was on this mountain, where Moses went to die;
Still unknown to this day, the place his body does lie.

On both sides of Jordan;  How many were designated so?
3.God did not permit Moses to enter the promised land;
He had sinned against God at what wilderness stand?
Answers to Last Week’s ‘Bible Riddles’:  1. Elisha (2nd Kings 2:23-24);  2. Rachel (Gen. 30:22-
24; 35:16-19); 3. Esther (Esther 2:7).

Our memory verse for JUNE comes from the New Testament book of  Romans.   Only one
verse.   Easy and familiar.
Repeat it over and over, ten times ten.   You can do it.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”  (Romans 12:21).
REPEAT IT AGAIN; THEN AGAIN;  TEN TIMES TEN
BEFORE THE BREAK OF DAY. . . .
By Joe Price, Herty Church of Christ Bulletin, Lufkin, Texas

“I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help;  I hope in Your Word.
My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your Word.”
(Psalm 119:147-148)
There are no better ways to start your day than with prayer to God and reading God’s Word.
Unhindered by the distractions and pressing demands of the day; such prayers rise early and
reach the throne of God like incense from the altar. (Rev. 5:8; 8:1-3).
Reading and meditating on God’s Word at the break of day equips us to be prepared and
faithful throughout the day.  Should sleep escape us during the night, even then, God’s Word will
be on our minds.
