THE GREAT OLD WESTERN TV SHOWS AND THEIR MUSIC THEMES
Those who grew up with the early days of TV will remember in the late 50's an early 60's some of the
great Western TV shows. My favorite was Gunsmoke with Matt Dillon, Doc,Miss Kitty, Chester and later
Festus and Quint. All of these old westerns were stories about bad guys, sometimes "evil" guys. You
always knew that Matt or any of the characters were going to do the right thing. They were for the "little
guy" and the "underdog". Matt dealt with bad guys with a quick fist, or a backhand and if necessary a
Gun. Justice was quick and fast. The inner play between either Doc and Chester and Festus was always
great. Even in the most serious of stories, many times there was humor. I still watch re-runs of many of
these old shows and throughly enjoy them. When they originally aired, I usually did not have time to watch
them because I was in college and would be hard at the books, but now, thanks to Encore Western, I can
watch them often.
One of the other reasons(other than great stories) that I liked Gunsmoke was because Doc looked a lot
like my Grandfather and also because it was John Farrell's (my cousin)favorite show. John and I watched
Gunsmoke together as recently as 2008 and reminisced about the past.
