Viv top, 4th from left as a Kappa Delta Pledge
During Vivien’s freshman year she pledged Kappa Delta Sorority and here she is
pictured with Bennie Walker, a fellow PNG grad and Kappa Delta. The tradition at
Lamar Homecoming was to compete in building floats for the parade. The
freshmen were usually the ones doing the manual labor. The “no cavities” is
because the building of the floats began with chicken wire and crepe paper was
put into each cavity. Every sorority and fraternity competed for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
One of the bragging rights for the group came when your group won. NOTE: VIV
IS WEARING A FISH BEANIE.

Viv, voting and feeling confident she has voted for the “ugliest man”
In the spring of 1960, Vivien was initiated into the Freshman Honor Society

I never knew Viv was in the Math Club and it was started her Freshman year. Note the
slide rules and the business calculator. At that time the computer was an IBM which
took up and entire room and was very limited in what it could do, but Viv was in the
new tech mix.
Of Course since Vivien was an English major, she was also a writer, so here
she is as a reporter for the Redbird, the weekly student newspaper
One of Vivien's scholarships was to play in the Lamar Tech marching band. Vivien is listed as playing the clarinet, but due to the large size of the band,
I cannot find her in the picture. Later she was a twirler in the Lamar band. This was the largest member group on campus.
Viv pledged Kappa Delta in the fall of '59 and by the fall of '60 she was Vice President, adding to her many duties
and activities, meanwhile she continued with Rainbow.
